Center to Host International Workshop on German-Jewish and Forced Migration Studies

On March 18-19, Appalachian State University's Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies will be host to the 2021 Southeast German Studies Workshop that will shed light on the latest research in German-Jewish and Forced Migration Studies. Some 50 junior and senior scholars from the region will convene with colleagues and PhD students from the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University Berlin, Germany for the first online workshop. Co-organized with the Org Committee of the Southeast German Studies Consortium, the conference features several panels on a range of topics along with other sessions, among others on research funding to do work in Germany co-hosted with the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. A number of German diplomats also discuss pertinent issues with the participants. "Auditors" in the workshop's regular panel sessions are welcome (but space is limited). Anyone who is interested may contact the Center at holocaust@appstate.edu to receive the program and password. For more information on the conference, also see here. Unlike the keynote lecture, the panels eschew formal presentations in favor of more democratic group discussions of pre-circulated position papers that address the workshop’s central themes in German-Jewish History and Studies, including forced migration studies.  Organized by the Org Committee of the Southeast German Studies Consortium and ASU's Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Peace Studies, the workshop is co-sponsored by ASU's College of Arts and Sciences, the Departments of History, Languages, Literatures, and Cultures as well as ASU's German Studies Program, the American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Washington,. D.C., the Council for European Studies, New York City; Davidson College's German Department, Emory University's German and History Departments, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Washington, D.C.
