Center Issues Call for Submissions for 2021-22 JHP Student Research Prize in Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies
Last year, the Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies launched its new JHP Student Research Prize. Alexander Gilliatt (GJS/JHP) became the first recipient of the prize for his superb research paper on "English, Yinglish, and a Surviving Mother Tongue." Gabe Atkinson (HIS/JHP) received an honorable mention for this fine work on “Antisemitism At Home: A Look at the Origins of Antisemitism in the Armia Krajowa.”
The Center now issues a call for submissions for its 2021-22 JHP Student Research Prize. The prize celebrates and honors (1) an ASU student in a JHP cross-listed class in 2021-22 or (2) an ASU student who has otherwise engaged in and completed exceptional research and artistic endeavors directly related to Judaic, Holocaust or Peace Studies during this time. The research paper prize includes a $250 cash prize. The recipient will also be invited to present their work at a Center research colloquium in F'22.
Submissions can come with a nomination from an instructor of a JHP course in which the work was produced or from an academic adviser or mentor. We ask the nominating faculty member to provide a short explanation of why the work should be considered for the prize. Either the student or the faculty member can then submit all materials. We also accept self-nominations and submissions from students (along with a brief reflection on the strengths and contributions of the work).
Please send submissions to thomaspegelowkaplan@appstate.edu. The submission deadline is April 18, 2022. The prize committee composed of Center affiliated faculty will then review the submissions. The winner and honorable mention will be presented at the end-of-the-year Center event in May. (extended to Mon., April. 25!).
