A Professor emerita in Native American Studies at California State University, Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz is known for her lifelong commitment to social justice issues. As a supporter of the International Indigenous Movement, Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz has worked to ensure the sovereignty and land rights of Indigenous communities for over four decades. She is also known for her work in movements against the Vietnam War, Imperialism, and as one of the founders of the Women's Liberation Movement. In addition to An Indigenous People's History of the United States, Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz is the author of a series of noted books, including The Great Sioux Nation, Loaded: A Disarming History of the Second Amendment, Roots of Resistance: A History of Land Tenure in New Mexico, and, most recently, Not A Nation of Immigrants: Settler Colonialism, White Supremacy, and a History of Erasure and Exclusion. |
